Buying a 16mm Film Projector

If you are looking for a 16mm film projector to simply view old classic 16 mm film prints on the screen, you can go for a basic one for around $50. If you want to transfer home movies or rare classic prints from film to video and dvd (also known as telecine), try to get film projector with a five blade shutter. Most standard film projectors have four blades. The five blade shutter reduces flicker, a common problem with video transfers of film, by projecting true 24 frames per second onto on the screen. Five Blade Film Projectors

Video camcorders record at about 30 frames per second. Cheaper film projectors that come with 4 blades project less than 24 frames per second, increasing the chance for flickering problems. So for good telecine system, buy a good five blade film projector to avoid this flickering problem. A popular brand are Elmo film projectors.
